  30. ViewNotes are online documents designed to answer questions you
  31. may have about Microsoft Windows-based products. To read this
  32. ViewNote in Microsoft Multimedia Viewer, a program that allows
  33. you to read .MVB files (online Viewer documents), follow the 
  34. instructions below. ViewNotes require Microsoft Windows operating
  35. system version 3.0 or later.

  37. FILES THAT MUST BE DOWNLOADED
  38. -----------------------------

  40. This ViewNote requires the following:
  41.  
  42. ViewNote Files
  43.  - VM009.MVB (the ViewNote)
  44.  - VM009.IND (the ViewNote index)
  45.  
  46. Viewer Files
  47.  - MMVIEW.EXE (Microsoft Multimedia Viewer)
  48.  - FTUI.DLL (Viewer file for full-text search)
  49.  - FTENGINE.DLL (Viewer file for full-text search)
  50.  - MVAPI.DLL (Viewer file for full-text search)

  52. INSTALLATION
  53. ------------

  55. Note: If you already have Microsoft Viewer (MMVIEW.EXE)
  56. installed in your VIEWNOTE directory, skip to step 2.
  57.  
  58. To install the Viewer files (MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, and
  59. FTENGINE.DLL) and the files for this ViewNote (VM009.MVB and 
  60. VM009.IND), do the following:
  61.  
  62. Note: To save hard-disk space, you may prefer to copy this 
  63. ViewNote to a high-density floppy disk and run the ViewNote from 
  64. the floppy disk rather than running the ViewNote from your hard 
  65. disk). If this is the case, copy MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, 
  66. FTENGINE.DLL, VM009.MVB, and VM009.IND files to a floppy disk
  67. instead of to your VIEWNOTE directory.

  69. 1. If you do not have a VIEWNOTE directory set up with 
  70.    MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, and FTENGINE.DLL located in 
  71.    the directory, do the following to install a read-only version 
  72.    of Viewer:
  73.  
  74.    a. Create a directory by choosing Create Directory from the 
  75.       File menu in File Manager, typing "viewnote" (without the
  76.       quotation marks) in the Name box, and choosing the OK 
  77.       button.
  78.  
  79.    b. Download the Viewer files (MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, 
  80.       and FTENGINE.DLL) from your bulletin board service (for
  81.       example, from the Microsoft Download Service [MSDL], 
  82.       OnLine, CompuServe, or GEnie). These Viewer files can be 
  83.       obtained from the Software/Data Library on CompuServe, 
  84.       OnLine, and GEnie by searching for the word MMVIEW or 
  85.       S13434. Note that MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, and 
  86.       FTENGINE.DLL are compressed in the file MMVIEW.ZIP on 
  87.       CompuServe, OnLine, and GEnie. After the file has been 
  88.       downloaded, you must decompress the file using the PKware 
  89.       PKUNZIP utility.

  91.       These Viewer files can also be downloaded through the MSDL
  92.       at (206) 936-6735. The Viewer files are located in the 
  93.       Windows 3.1 file area and are in the self-extracting file 
  94.       MMVIEWER.EXE.

  96. 2. Follow the instructions below. For example, if you obtained
  97.    Viewer from MSDL, follow the instructions under the "MSDL
  98.    Users" heading.
  99.  
  100.    MSDL Users
  101.    ----------

  103.    After you have downloaded MMVIEWER.EXE, move it to your 
  104.    VIEWNOTE directory or floppy disk. Because this file is 
  105.    compressed, it needs to be expanded by typing the name of the
  106.    file (MMVIEWER) at an MS-DOS command prompt. (MMVIEW.EXE, 
  107.    FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL, and FTENGINE.DLL are the expanded Viewer 
  108.    files used to read ViewNotes.) Also, move VM009.MVB 
  109.    (the ViewNote) and VM009.IND to your VIEWNOTE directory or 
  110.    floppy disk:

  112.    a. In File Manager, select the files you want to move.
  113.    b. From the File menu, choose Move.
  114.    c. In the To text box, enter the path to the VIEWNOTE 
  115.       directory you created in step 1a.
  116.    d. Choose the OK button.

  118.    OnLine, CompuServe, GEnie Users
  119.    -------------------------------
  120.  
  121.    After you have downloaded MMVIEW.ZIP (and decompressed 
  122.    it if you are using OnLine, CompuServe, or GEnie), move the 
  123.    decompressed Viewer files (MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL, MVAPI.DLL,
  124.    and FTENGINE.DLL), VM009.IND, and VM009.MVB (the
  125.    ViewNote) to your VIEWNOTE directory or floppy disk:

  127.    a. In File Manager, select the files you want to move.
  128.    b. From the File menu, choose Move.
  129.    c. In the To text box, enter the path to the VIEWNOTE 
  130.       directory you created in step 1a.
  131.    d. Choose the OK button.

  133. READING THIS VIEWNOTE
  134. ---------------------

  136. To read the "Multimedia Applications Information Guide" ViewNote, 
  137. do the following:
  138.  
  139. 1. After installing the Viewer files (MMVIEW.EXE, FTUI.DLL,
  140.    MVAPI.DLL, and FTENGINE.DLL), VM009.MVB, and VM009.IND
  141.    using the instructions above, run Windows File Manager.
  142.  
  143. 2. If you are running "Multimedia Applications Information Guide" 
  144.    from your hard disk, open the directory where Viewer,
  145.    VM009.MVB, and VM009.IND reside (the VIEWNOTE directory if you
  146.    followed the directions above) and double-click VM009.MVB.
  147.    If you are using a keyboard, select VM009.MVB and press ENTER.

  151.    If you are running "Multimedia Applications Information Guide" 
  152.    from a floppy disk, run MMVIEW.EXE, choose Open from the File menu
  153.    in Viewer, select VM009.MVB, and choose the OK button.

  155. SETTING UP A VIEWER ICON
  156. ------------------------
  157.  
  158. If you set up a Viewer icon, you can run Viewer by choosing the
  159. icon, and then load the ViewNote by choosing Open from the 
  160. File menu in Viewer, and selecting VM009.MVB from the VIEWNOTE
  161. directory. To set up a ViewNote icon, create a program item for
  162. Viewer. For information about creating a program item, see pages 
  163. 78-81 of the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide" for Windows version 
  164. 3.1 and pages 89-91 of the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide" for 
  165. version 3.0.
